About
I’m David Finkelstein, a storyteller with a 3 decade career as a video editor, crafting narratives that leave a lasting impact. I’ve had the privilege of working on incredible projects with some of the industry’s most creative minds, from the big screen to the smallest of screens, amassing hundreds of millions of views along the way.

My journey in storytelling began in my senior year of high school, when I started working professionally on Vamp, a vampire film starring Grace Jones. That early dive into editing sparked a passion that’s driven me ever since. I’ve honed that craft on projects like ABC’s Shark Tank, where my editing earned three Emmy nominations and two American Reality TV Awards for Best Editing, and on feature films like Tombstone, Waterworld, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, where I’ve worked as Apprentice to Assistant Editor or Assistant Sound Editor and ultimately as Editor. Every project is a chance to bring a vision to life.

Over the years, I’ve taken on leadership roles as a Supervising Editor, Lead Editor, or Finish Editor, guiding edit teams with a focus on collaboration, mentoring, diversity, and inclusion. I love setting the style and tone for a project, working closely with directors, producers, and post-supervisors to shape the narrative, while partnering with composers and graphics teams to refine the final look and feel. It’s all about building something together that resonates. I’ve also contributed to projects with visionaries like Walter Hill and Zalman King—editing a TV show and movie for the latter—and worked side by side with editing legends like Melody London (Jim Jarmusch’s editor) and Ila Von Hasperg (Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s editor). Those experiences have deepened my love for the craft and taught me the power of diverse perspectives.

For me, storytelling is about forging an emotional connection with audiences while driving viewership. Whether it’s a fast-paced reality TV episode or a cinematic classic, I thrive on shaping narratives that hit home. Now, I’m eager to mentor the next wave of filmmakers and media creators, sharing what I’ve learned to inspire fresh voices. Storytelling isn’t just my profession—it’s how I see the world, and I’m excited for what’s next.
